2019 Knitting Trends For Autumn and Winter

Posted on 01/09/2019

As Autumn descends and thoughts turn to warmer wear, knitted items continue to appear on the catwalk.  Everyone loves a new jumper which can be extremely versatile and worn, over dresses and skirts as well as giving a real lift to jeans or paired with a smart pair of trousers.  Choose from eye catching green jumpers, to those with large, volumised sleeves or the preppy look as well as Fair Isle, the trend this Autumn/Winter 2019 is big on style with lots of statement pieces to cosy up in.

Be Seen In Green

Green jumpers are dominating this Autumn with many different tones such as lime green to grass green and is the perfect choice to embrace the season and flattering to many skin tones.

Here at Ajanta Studios, we love this marble effect light green yarn by James C  Brett which creates warm knitwear to see you through the seasons.

Nordic Style

One of the huge knit trends on show will be the mighty Fair Isle knit.  These are a little like marmite with some fairly opposing views as to whether they could be considered ugly or not.  However, paired with statement leather trousers we love this heritage style which shows no sign of losing its appeal.

Perfect for work and the weekend, a Fair Isle is ideal for cosying up in winter and as well as being seen on jumpers can also be a versatile and stylish statement on gloves, hats, dresses and footwear.

The trend for family unity when it comes to styling is still very popular and this Family Fair Isle Jumper patter by Patons will keep you busy but will be well worth the effort and hard to beat for Fair Isles with warmth and comfort whilst being bang on trend.

Knits on Knits

Clever layering of knits means that you can instantly get the look from pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Jumpers with mixed colours of two or more will also be popular in the coming months as well as being oversized with thick purls which really nail this popular French look.

The Preppy Look

The Preppy style originates from the classic style of upper and middle class students in American universities.

For men who want the Preppy look you can’t go far wrong this Autumn/Winter with a cable knit jumper or a simple ‘V’ neck cricket jumper or cardigan.  This traditional jumper is ideal for colder winter days and we love this pattern using Baltic yarn so you can enjoy this style to cosy up in to see you through the winter months.

So, whether big puffy sleeves are your thing or you prefer the more tailored preppy look or the variety of Fair Isles you have a myriad of trendy styles to choose from this season and you can be sure to find a knit to suit.

Whatever your preference, knitwear is going to be a key fashion statement this Autumn and Winter in 2019.
